- Former First Gentleman Mike Arroyo has been implicated in the anomalous purchase of second-hand helicopters made by the Philippine National Police (PNP). The helicopters were passed off as brand new. The PNP conducted an investigation and confirmed this allegation made by Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson. Arroyo, however, denied that his family sold the said choppers to PNP.
- Retired Maj. Gen. Carlos Garcia was charged with plunder. He allegedly amassed over P300-M in ill-gotten wealth while in service. Former Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief Angelo Reyes was likewise charged with getting at least P350-M from AFP and P50-M as ‘ pabaon.’
- Caving under the pressure of the investigation, Reyes shocked the nation one morning when he shot himself on the chest at his mother’s grave at Loyola Memorial Park, Marikina. He used his own gun and was within earshot of his sons. His last word to them was “Sorry.”
- Manny Pacquiao beat four-time world champion Shane Mosley at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas to retain the World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight belt. The decision in Pacquiao’s favor was unanimous.
- Juan Miguel Zubiri resigned as senator and the Senate Electoral Tribunal (SET) proclaimed Aquilino ‘Koko’ Pimentel III the 12th winning senator in the 2007 elections. Zubiri resigned after accusations of electoral fraud surfaced.
- Former president now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo underwent a delicate spine surgery at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Taguig City after the titanium implant placed on her cervical spine was dislocated.
- A debate is raging on whether Crocodile Lolong, believed to be the biggest ever in captivity, will be allowed to stay in his cage at Bgy. Consuelo, Bunawan, Agusan del Sur, or returned to the wild. Lolong was captured after he ate a water buffalo. He weighs over a ton and is at least 50 years old.
- Overseas Filipino Workers Sally Villanueva, Ramon Credo and Elizabeth Batain were executed in China after being victims of rampant drug trafficking.
- Bb. Pilipinas-Universe Shamcey Supsup placed third runner-up in the Miss Universe pageant at Sao Paolo, Brazil. Miss Angola Leila Lopes won the crown after judge Lea Salonga asked her the final question.
