The more things change, the more they stay the same. A well-used quotation that nevertheless sums up one of the eternal truths in this planet.

Our country, as we know it, has undergone so many changes since time immemorial. Calesas are now a thing of the past, and so are the 10 centavo gum balls. But why focus on things that are now gone? We , here at AHEAD, can think of a dozen reasons why the Philippines that our parents grew up in, is still the same beloved Pinas we live in right now. Here are a few:

close family ties – the ties that bind. Loving one’s family and sticking up for it no matter what is a Filipino trait that is not very common outside of our country nowadays.

Bayanihan Spirit – a distinct Filipino value that dates back to the old times when communities helped one of their own move their whole hut to a different area. Times might have changed but the Pinoy’s response to distress calls have remained the same.

Belief in Education – way back then and until now, educated people are held with high regard by Filipinos. This is a huge reason why families (see example #1) will do almost anything to ensure that their loved ones are getting the best education that their resources can manage.

Education, even in the direst of hours, is seen as the saving grace. The ladder to success, the ticket away from poverty. And how true! This is the reason why AHEAD, over the past ten years, continue to support those who dream and take steps to make their dream come true.
