No matter how driven you are, there will come a point when you’ll feel too tired, too lazy or too…something to keep going. Don’t fret. This is normal. Even the most optimistic person on earth has, at one point, encountered a situation that made them feel like stopping and giving up. Again, let me tell you, this is normal. But, what do you do when you’re having an ‘I’m so unmotivated’ moment? Do you mope around and wait for an outside force to make you feel better? Or do you try to do something to cheer yourself up? Or maybe, you want to get moving, but don’t know how.
There are lots of ways to get ‘back into the groove’. Here are a few, we’re sure that you will be able to find at least one or two that will work for you.
Make a deal with yourself – this is good for getting things done. Much like dangling the carrot in front of the horse, making a deal with yourself means promising yourself a reward after you have accomplished a certain task or goal. Delayed gratification, is what they call this. An important thing though, you CAN’T CHEAT! Rewarding yourself with a movie after finishing a project won’t be very satisfying if you were watching the trailer while doing the project.
If you don’t feel it, Fake it! – If you don’t feel motivated or enthusiastic then act like it. The strange thing is that within a few minutes you actually start to feel motivated or enthusiastic for real.
Remember to have fun – Or create fun in a task. Then you’ll stay motivated to do and finish it.
Remember your successes – Keeping track of your successes does not automatically make you a braggart. Sometimes, the only thing that can make us keep going is knowing that whatever setback we’re facing is only temporary. Knowing that you have already succeeded in plenty of things can be a great morale booster.
No day but today – The theme of a Broadway musical, it is a very apt reminder of just how precious each day is to us. We don’t have all the time in the world, so we should do everything we can to make each day count. That includes getting out of bed and reviewing for a big exam, even if you don’t feel like it.
